Background Information

M. Night Shyamalan original birth name is Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan.
He was born on the 6th August 1970, in Mahe in India.
He is now an Indian American filmmaker and screenwriter, who currently works in the USA.
His father is an Indian Malayali Physician.
His mother is a Tamil Indian, who also specializes in Obstetrician and Gynaecology (the process of surgically dealing with female reproductive organs which provide care for pregnant and non-pregnant women).
After the birth of their first child, M. Night Shyamalan’s parents moved to the U.S.
Manoj spent his first 6 weeks in Pondicherry, India, and then was raised in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania.
He attended a private Roman Catholic Grammar School, Waldron Mercy Academy, for disciplinary reasons.
This was then later followed by a private Episcopal High School.
He then finally graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of Arts in Manhattan in 1992.
Whilst studying he adopted the name ‘Night’ as his second name.
In 1993 he married an Indian Psychologist Bhavna Vaswani, who he met at University and he had 2 daughters with ( this when he started to become fascinated and inspired by her job, that he includes this occupation, in ‘The Sixth Sense).
