For my Advanced Portfolio this year, I have decided to create a Psychological (with supernatural elements) horror film trailer. This sub-genre tends to have little physical harm, but instead mainly focuses on frightening the audience mentally, rather than showing graphic images in other sub-genres such as Slasher. The Psychological horror is widely popular for its use of body horror. The purpose for doing this is, to exploit the human fears of abnormality, disease and suffering etc. In addition, its creates discomfort for the audience by exposing a wide range of common psychological fears and vulnerabilities, where people tend to deny, and so the genre would make the audience feel as if they were trying to get in contact with the things that, a member of the audience would want to keep a secret. There are a lot of films that originate from the Psychological Horror genre including: The Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense and Orphan, which is where my horror film trailer will be inspired by.
