Questionnaire Analysis

I had handed out my questionnaire to 25 people in total, trying to aim people who were in the age bracket of 15-35, which is what my target audience age restriction would be for my horror film trailer.

Question 1

‘What gender are you?  Please tick where appropriately’

Altogether there were 12 people who were female and 13 people who were male.

Question 2

‘What age bracket do you fit into? Please tick where appropriate’

·        15 people said they were in the age bracket of 25-29.

·        10 people said they were in the age bracket of 18-24

 Question 3

‘What is your favourite type of film? Please tick only one choice’

·        20/25 people said their favourite type of film was horror, and therefore I only used those 20 people to analysis and finalise my results, as the other 5 chose other genres.

  Question 4

‘How many times do you watch film trailers? Please tick only one choice’

·        Out of the 20, ¾ (15) of the people said they watch film trailers 3 times a week.

·        The remaining ¼ (5) of the people said they watch film trailers twice a week.

   Question 5

‘How often do you go to the Cinema? Please only tick one choice’

·        1/20 ticked that they only go to the cinema once a month.

·        The other 19 ticked ‘other’ and then stated ‘it depends on what film has come out’ or ‘if I have enough spare time, I would go’.

    Question 6

‘Which of the following Horror films do you prefer? You may tick more than one’

All the options had received ticks, but the Slasher sub genre had received more popularity, in contrast to the Supernatural sub genre.

·        The Slasher sub genre was the most popular option with 7 ticks altogether.

·        The Thriller and Psychological sub genres was joint 2^nd with 5 ticks each altogether.

·        The Supernatural sub genres was the least favourite with 3 ticks altogether.

‘What is your favourite Horror film? You may tick more than one’

·        SAW received 6 ticks.

·        Halloween received 8 ticks

·        The Texas Chainsaw Massacre received 6 ticks.

·        Orphan received 8 ticks

·        Scream received 10 ticks

·        A Nightmare on Elm Street received 5 ticks

·        Prom Night received 2 ticks

Question 8

‘In your own opinion, please state what features make a horror film, enjoyable for you?

The answers ranged from ‘the general dark atmosphere of the cinema theatre when the film is playing, the spooky chilling music in the background of the film, the sudden silences, the blood and gore and having the same strange feeling as the victim that you are also a victim of the killer.

‘Do you ever download films, if yes what genre?’

All 20 people had stated ‘yes’ and also said they downloaded horror, thriller, Science fiction thriller and Action.

‘Do you ever visit YouTube to watch film trailers?’

All 20 had said ‘yes’

Question 11

‘Please name one film that you have seen and persuaded other people to see because you thought the film was really good and effective?’

Slasher films were the most popular choice.

·        8 people said ‘Saw’

·        7 people said ‘Orphan’

·        5 people said ‘Halloween’

Question 12

‘Have you ever gone to see a film(s) because the film trailer you saw was really eye-catching? If yes, what was the name of the film(s)?’

The responses ranged from Saw (Slasher), Grace (Psychological), The Sixth Sense (Psychological and Supernatural), Orphan (Psychological) Scream (Slasher), Halloween (Slasher), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Slasher), The Wicker Man (Psychological) and Dead Silence (Supernatural).

Question 13

‘Thinking back to the film trailers that you were not impressed with, what makes a film trailer less effective for you?’

There was a variety of different responses:

·        No tense atmosphere created from the scenes, i.e. lack of blood and genuine fear.

·        No constant and increasing speed to keep the audience scared and alert.

·        If the killings have no sense of realism, and genuinely look fake, which wouldn’t satisfy the audience.

·        10 people said ‘the speed of fast cuts to the next scene’

·        12 people said the ‘Sound’

·        5 people said the ‘Location’

·        4 people said ‘The different types of Camera shots and angles’
